Greatest British Sporting Achievements of 2015

It has been hailed as the greatest British sporting achievement of all time – Team GB winning the Davis Cup for the first time in 79 years. Andy Murray cinched the victory from the Belgium team by defeating David Goffin in the final. He was clearly emotional in victory, embracing his team mates, which included his brother, Jamie Murray.

It was a great day for British sport, that will be long remembered by all those that saw it, and even those that didn’t. But, it won’t only be this day in 2015 that will remembered in 2015, as it was a truly great year for British sport, with many amazing sporting achievements…

World Championship Swimming
British swimming has seen a real resurgence in form in recent years, which cumulated in the best ever performance in the FINA World Championships, long with the British Para-swimming team, taking home an impressive 10 gold medals in the IPC World Championships.

Highlights of the World Championship included Tom Daley’s and Rebecca Gallantree’s gold medal in the first Mixed Team Event and Adam Peaty setting three world records and taking three World Titles. Could it be that Britain has their best swimming team ever, at the moment?

World Championship Gymnastics
The English, Scottish  and Welsh teams were on fire at the Commonwealth Games last year and they seem to have carried that momentum through to 2015, with a sterling and historic performance at the World Championships. Great Britain took home their first ever World Championship team medals, with a silver for the boys and a bronze for the girls.

Max Whitlock was also on great form, putting his disappointment in the  individual all-round competition behind him, with a near flawless performance to take the pommel horse title and a silver in the floor. Along with a silver for Louis Smith in the pommel horse, it was Britain’s best ever medal tally in the World Championships.

Lizzie Armistead
The British cycling team is arguably the best in the world, and Lizzie Armistead has probably been the best of a great bunch in 2015. She won the Ladies Tour of Qatar in February and, for the second year in a row, the UCI Women’s Road World Cup. She topped off her fantastic year, by winning the World Championship road race, with an impeccable performance that was closing in on perfection.
